The Arts

The Dutch Golden Age was a period of economic prosperity, scientific advancement, and artistic achievement in the seventeenth-century Netherlands. The thriving maritime trade that fueled the Dutch Republic altered the fabric of its society in many ways, including roles for women. Join graduate student lecturer Rachel Kase as we examine the various ways women are represented in the MFA’s rich holdings of seventeenth-century Dutch paintings.
