The Arts

Turning away from weighty religious and historical subjects of the previous century, the 18th-century French court at Versailles and the artists they patronized embraced the witty subject matter, asymmetry, and pastel colors of Rococo. A remarkable degree of ornamentation characterized everything from furniture to painting at the Palace of Versailles. Join gallery student lecturer Rachel Kase to delight in the light-hearted elegance of Rococo splendor in the MFA’s collection.
