Navajo weavings, Zuni Pueblo pottery, Plains Indians beadwork, and other works of Native American art were some of the first objects to enter the MFA’s collection after it was established in 1876. Although Native American art captivated the Museum’s early leaders, the MFA later lent or donated most of these holdings to other institutions. Join Dennis Carr, Carolyn and Peter Lynch Curator of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture; and Layla Bermeo, Kristin and Roger Servison Assistant Curator of Paintings, to examine this complicated moment in the MFA’s early history and to explore new ways to display and interpret the Museum’s current collection of Native American art.
